The Rotary Club of Killeen Heights (RCKH) is committed to advancing basic education and literature through meaningful projects that directly impact the community. With the replacement of East Ward Elementary by the new Killeen Elementary, RCKH is actively involved in re-establishing the Literacy Library, building on its previous success in promoting access to books and literacy resources for young learners. Recognizing the crucial role of a well-equipped library in fostering a love for reading, the club remains dedicated to supporting the educational journey of local students.
As part of a broader initiative with District 5870, RCKH is embarking on the creation of a Little Free Library—a powerful tool for addressing the scarcity of books in underprivileged areas. These book-sharing boxes, strategically placed, serve as beacons of knowledge by providing 24/7 access to literature. By contributing to this project, the Rotary Club actively nurtures a culture of reading and learning among youth, emphasizing the transformative impact of literacy on educational development.
In addition to these projects, RCKH's engagement with the Oak Creek Academy Reading Program exemplifies the club's commitment to literacy improvement. Having provided resources in Rotary Year 2020-2021, Rotarians are welcomed back to the academy to partake in reading sessions with students, strengthening the bond between the club and the community while fostering a lifelong love for reading among young minds.
