Concrete blocks are made from a mixture of cement, lightweight aggregates, and water. They are an affordable building material that can be used for many construction projects and come in several standard sizes, the most common of which is called a concrete masonry unit (CMU).
A standard concrete blocks actual size is 7 5/8 wide x 7 5/8 tall x 15 5/8 long. By using the standard 3/8 masonry joint, it equates to an 8 x 8 x 16 block when installed in a structure.
