April is Fair Housing Month, a time to recognize and promote equal access to housing for all. Fair housing laws protect individuals from discrimination and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live in the home of their choice, as long as they can afford it. The Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) work together to enforce state and federal fair housing laws and support housing providers in staying compliant. It is illegal to deny housing to anyone based on race, color, national origin, religion, disability, sex, or because children are part of the household.
